Sunroof — the long-running collaborative project of Daniel Miller and Gareth Jones — return with “Electronic Music Improvisations Volume 3”, released on Mute’s Parallel Series and available on limited transparent orange vinyl (1,000 copies worldwide) and CD.

The album collects nine new improvisations recorded entirely on the duo’s Eurorack modular systems, expanding the strict, exploratory framework they established on their 2021 debut. Miller, founder and chairman of Mute, and Jones, known for his production work with Depeche Mode, Einstürzende Neubauten, Erasure, and Yann Tiersen, have collaborated for more than forty years. Their history subtly surfaces on “Splendid,” which opens with cassette hiss sourced from the original TEAC 4-track Miller used to record The Normal’s “Warm Leatherette,” before erupting into colliding oscillators and rhythmic pulses.

“Electronic Music Improvisations Volume 3” follows the duo’s earlier releases — “Electronic Music Improvisations Vol. 1” (2021), “Electronic Music Improvisations Vol. 2” (2023), and their Bandcamp-exclusive “Electronic Music Improvisations Live in London and Frankfurt” — continuing Sunroof’s commitment to spontaneous, modular electronic performance.

Released November 29, 2024.
