Originally remastered in 2013 and now reissued on limited edition turquoise vinyl (out June 17), “Micro-Phonies” is Cabaret Voltaire’s most streamlined and dance-focused release. Issued in 1984, it became the group’s most accessible record, driven by the singles “James Brown” and “Sensoria.” The latter’s Peter Care–directed video earned heavy MTV rotation and became one of the first music videos to enter the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Often cited as the Cabs’ most mainstream moment, “Micro-Phonies” still captures what made them so influential: an early, forward-looking fusion of dance music, techno, dub, house, and experimental electronics that helped shape the sound of generations to come.
